I took some pictures of Leslie at our final session. Below is the traditional "before", where Leslie is out of hypnosis and in her normal, waking state.

Leslie at the start of the session.

This one shows Leslie in a deep, relaxed state of self-hypnosis.

And this picture (below) shows Leslie, still in deep self-hypnosis. But here she is in the Alert Trance state. She was able to achieve anesthesia in specific parts of her body while in this state.

Leslie's story

He's here! Alex was born on Sept 7 at 5:50am. He's 6 lbs 8 oz and 19.25 inches long. Here's how he got here:

At 2:00am on Sept 7, I woke up to the feeling of something leaking. I ran to the bathroom, and while the bed and the carpet stayed dry, my clothes were soaked. I woke my husband up and we got ready to go to the hospital. I was not contracting, at least not to my knowledge, so we took our time.

We left the house, dropped our son off with my parents, and then the contractions started. They were rough to deal with in the car, but I was able to relax, and usually get the pain under control using my pain dial. Usually the pain would go away instantly. It was awesome.

We got to the hospital at 3:40am. I got checked in, and told the nurse (Regina) when she was checking my cervix that if I wasn't more than 2 cm to lie to me. She didn't have to though because I was 6 cm! The nurses finally got my IV started and I had decided that maybe an epidural would be a better way to go. The contractions were right on top of each other and I didn't have time in between them to get myself to relax enough to get to my control panel (plus, I must have been in the Transition Stage when everything is more intense).

However, right after my IV was started, I started feeling the urge to push. Regina checked me, and I had just a little cervix left. She told me not to push and that the doctor was on her way in. Body instincts took over, and I had no control over pushing. The body does what it is going to do! I told Regina, "I'm not going to lie, I'm pushing!" :) My doctor got there, I pushed for 25 minutes and delivered a perfect little boy. Start to finish was less than 4 hours.

I kept saying I was going to go fast! Thank goodness I did because it was intense. I'm glad I was able to do it without an epidural though. I'm so glad Regina did the classes with me because she was a great coach. My husband and mom were also there, and between the 3 of them, I had a great support group. Thank you so much for teaching me the tools I could use to be able to do this!

Here's an update to our story too.

A little flashback to our experience with Jack, our first. When Jack was about 2-3 weeks old, he started crying all the time. At night he would want to latch on to me continuously and would cry if I put him down. It was miserable for all of us, and when I would call the lactation nurse for help, she would just tell me this wasn't normal. Our anniversary was coming up and I started pumping so he would have some food while we went to dinner to celebrate. He stayed with my mom and sister and in those couple hours we were gone, he ate everything I had pumped! The poor boy was starving! He was almost 7 weeks old at this point and we started supplementing with formula. He finally had a full belly and we were both so happy!

This time around is so different. I remember you talking to my subconscious about producing milk, and let me just say, it listened! We took Alex to his 2 week appointment yesterday and the nurse practitioner told me at this point they like see the baby back up to birth weight. Well, not only did Alex reach that, he surpassed it by almost a pound! He's now 7 lbs 5 oz. And he only eats about every 3 hours so we all get some sleep at night too!

After our first experience, this was totally worth our classes and wasn't even something I had thought about. Instead, it's an awesome bonus! Thank you!!
